“The Door”

“The Door” is an art project I completed a couple of years ago, marking the first instance where I utilized art as a tool to make a positive impact on others. The inspiration for this project struck me during the summer of 2018 when I volunteered at a school for children with special needs. As I taught these children how to paint, many of them holding a paintbrush for the very first time, I discovered the magical and powerful nature of art. Not only does it have the ability to connect people, but it also serves as an excellent medium for conveying messages, facilitating learning, and bringing a sense of calm to children.

This experience led me to a profound decision – to create a project that would express my desire for people to unite and offer increased support for children with special needs. The result was a sculpture depicting two hands interlocked. One hand appears stronger and more muscular, while the other is slender and childlike. I view this sculpture as a representation of unity. A hidden symbolism within the artwork lies in the fact that the hand on the thinner arm has only four fingers, symbolizing minority groups. It is a reminder that true greatness is achieved only when we come together in unity.
